National Honor Society
Candidacy
You must first academically qualify for for membership in the Wamogo chapter of the National Honor Society by having a GPA (weighted) of 87% (B+)
If you are interested in becoming a member of the Wamogo Chapter of the NHS you must:
Ø Complete the Student Application: Application for National Honor Society Membership 2.doc This form represents you to the Faculty Council – they will not consider any information that is not provided by you – in fact, they might not even know you. It is critical that you present as much information as possible!
It is important that this form be filled out neatly and completely. The quality of your presentation tells the Faculty Council a great deal about you in addition to the information you provide. **Contact information must be provided for community service outside of school as we will contact these references to verify your service.
§ After reviewing each application, the members of the faculty council determine which of the candidates satisfy the remaining three qualities of character, leadership and citizenship.
Ten (10) hours of community service assigned by the NHS Adviser will be required for all members during the school year. Only those students who can contribute time to the Wamogo Chapter of the National Honor Society should apply.
Ø Complete your accompanying Essay Essay for the application.doc
Write a brief, one-page essay (exact directions are on the form) explaining why you want to become a member of the National Honor Society and what you feel you can contribute to this organization (notice this is THE question). It is important that you give this some serious thought, that you answer the question (some students in the past have missed the point), and that you present yourself well in this essay, both in content and execution (check for spelling, grammar, etc.).
Ø Submit both the Student Application Sheet and Essay to Ms. Bennett in English/Social Studies Office before deadline indicated on invitation.
Ø If you have any questions regarding how to best complete your application, please come to see me as quickly as possible. I am happy to help you in any way I can.
